Collaborative Design Project | Spring 2022
Project Overview
In the Collaborative Design course, students from diverse disciplines come together to form cross-functional teams. We are tasked with solving a consumer need by developing a product with electrical, mechanical, and digital components. The product must also be validated by the market and developed into a sustainable business plan. The course emphasizes the importance of effective collaboration, communication, and problem-solving as we leverage our unique skills and expertise to develop innovative solutions to real-world challenges.
My Contributions
As the team leader for this project, I lead a team of interdisciplinary students, including 2 business majors, 3 engineering majors, 1 computer science majors, and 2 graphic design majors. I guided the team through various stages of the project, fostering collaboration and effective communication among team members with different backgrounds and expertise. I also played an important role in coordinating and conducting market research, including focus groups and surveys, as well as developing the brand identity and visual assets.
Our research revealed that plant owners, primarily millennials, struggle to maintain the care of their plants due to a lack of education and confidence in their plant-care abilities. Our challenge was to create a product that addressed this issue while being visually appealing and user-friendly.
The Challenge
Our team designed an innovative self-watering pot that reads the moisture levels of the soil and communicates with a connected app to provide the plant with the necessary water. The water tank is seamlessly integrated into the pot's aesthetic design, ensuring both functionality and visual appeal. The app, alongside the self-watering pot, provides plant owners with the necessary guidance and confidence to take care of their plants, empowering them to cultivate their green thumb.
The Solution
